Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?

I work with teens (15+) and young adults across British Columbia who are experiencing anxiety, school avoidance, low motivation, or difficulty finding direction. I also provide support for youth in care or those working with Ministry teams.

What is online counselling like?

Online counselling takes place through secure video sessions using the Jane App. You can access therapy from a private space at home without needing to travel. Many teens find online sessions comfortable and familiar, and I take time in the first few meetings to make sure you feel at ease with the format.

Is a parent or caregiver involved?

For clients aged 15–18, the free consultation often includes a parent or caregiver and the teen, but sometimes it is just the parent or the teen. After that, sessions are typically one‑on‑one with the teen or young adult, although I may check in with parents as needed to support progress.

What happens in the free 15‑minute consultation?

The consultation is a short video call where we discuss what is bringing you to counselling, what you are hoping for, and whether my approach feels like a good fit. No therapy happens in that call; it is simply a chance to connect, ask questions, and decide if we will work well together.

What happens in the first full session?

The first session is a chance to get to know each other and create a comfortable starting point. We will review informed consent and confidentiality, talk about what brought you to counselling, and begin setting goals. It is a mix of conversation, orientation, and planning to help us understand what is getting in the way and how to move forward.

How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?

Sessions are 50 minutes. Most clients start with weekly or twice a month sessions, later moving to monthly or occasional check‑ins once progress is established. Together, we will decide what feels most supportive and realistic.

How many sessions will we need?

Every situation is different. Many clients notice meaningful change after 8–10 sessions, while others prefer ongoing support. You are free to stop or pause at any time.

What is your fee?

Sessions are $160 per 50 minutes. Payment is made by credit card through the Jane App after the session. Receipts are provided for insurance reimbursement.

Are sessions covered by insurance?

If your extended health plan covers counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), you can submit your receipt for reimbursement. Check your plan or contact your provider for details.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What you share in counselling stays private. The only exceptions occur if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, or if required by law (for example, related to child protection). I will always explain confidentiality clearly at the start of counselling and ongoing throughout our time working together.

Are there services you don’t provide?

To keep roles clear, some services fall outside the scope of counselling. I don’t offer diagnoses, psychological assessments, or legal or court‑related reports. I also don’t provide ongoing progress updates or monitor attendance. Communication with schools happens only with a teen’s consent and a completed Release of Information form.

How do I book a session?

All sessions are scheduled through the Jane App. You can book directly using the Book Now button to select a free 15‑minute consultation or a full session once we’ve connected. You can also use the contact form if you prefer email communication for scheduling or general questions.
